H1N1 Flu Information (Provided by Centers for Disease Control & Prevention
Questions & Answers 2009 H1N1 Flu ("Swine Flu") and You November 5, 2009 5:00 PM ET
2009
H1N1 Flu
What is 2009 H1N1 (swine flu)? 2009 H1N1 (sometimes called “swine
flu”) is a new influenza virus causing illness in people. This new virus was first detected in people in the United
States in April 2009. This virus is spreading from person-to-person worldwide, probably in much the same way that regular
seasonal influenza viruses spread. On June 11, 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) signaled that a pandemic of 2009 H1N1 flu was underway. Why is 2009 H1N1 virus sometimes called “swine
flu”? This virus was originally referred to as “swine flu” because laboratory testing showed
that many of the genes in this new virus were very similar to influenza viruses that normally occur in pigs (swine) in North
America. But further study has shown that this new virus is very different from what normally circulates in North American
pigs. It has two genes from flu viruses that normally circulate in pigs in Europe and Asia and bird (avian) genes and human
genes. Scientists call this a "quadruple reassortant" virus. 2009
H1N1 Flu in Humans Are there human infections with 2009 H1N1 virus in the U.S.? Yes. Human infections with 2009 H1N1 are ongoing in the United States. Most people who have become ill with this new virus
have recovered without requiring medical treatment. CDC routinely works with states to collect, compile and analyze
information about influenza, and has done the same for the new H1N1 virus since the beginning of the outbreak. This information
is presented in a weekly report, called FluView. Is 2009 H1N1 virus contagious? The 2009 H1N1 virus is contagious and is spreading from human
to human. How does 2009 H1N1 virus spread? Spread of 2009 H1N1 virus is thought to occur in the
same way that seasonal flu spreads. Flu viruses are spread mainly from person to person through coughing or sneezing by people
with influenza. Sometimes people may become infected by touching something – such as a surface or object – with
flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose. Can I get 2009 H1N1 more than once? Nov 5 Getting infected with any influenza virus, including 2009 H1N1, should cause your body
to develop immune resistance to that virus so it's not likely that a person would be infected with the identical influenza
virus more than once. (However, people with weakened immune systems might not develop full immunity after infection and might
be more likely to get infected with the same influenza virus more than once.) However, it's also possible that a person could
have a positive test result for flu infection more than once in an influenza season. This can occur for two reasons: - A
person may be infected with different influenza viruses (for example, the first time with 2009 H1N1 and the second time with
a regular seasonal flu virus. Most rapid tests cannot distinguish which influenza virus is responsible for the illness. And,
- Influenza
tests can occasionally give false positive and false negative results so it's possible that one of the test results were incorrect.
This is more likely to happen when the diagnosis is made with the rapid flu tests. More information about flu diagnosis is
available at http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/diagnosis/.

Gearing Up for the 2010 American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Charles County
We are gearing ourselves for the upcoming 2010 American Cancer
Society Relay For Life of Charles County. This event will be on June 11, 2010 at the Regency Stadium in Waldorf.
We are helping to save lives from cancer by taking part in this Wonderful Event and we are hoping you will be able
to support us.
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives people across the
globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against
the disease. At Relay For Life, teams of people camp out at a local high school (in our case, at the Regency Stadium),
park or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative
on the track at all times during the event, because can Never sleeps.
Relay For Life helps raise much-needed funds
and awareness to help the American Cancer Society save lives from cancer and create more birthdays.
Please support
us in our efforts by visiting our company team web pageto make a secure, tax-deductible
on-line donation.
Every donation really does make a difference, even if it's only $1.00. We know that times
are tighter than normal for many of us, but any amount you can give truly can help save lives.
Thanks to your
support, the American Cancer Society can: * Help people stay well by helping them take steps
to prevent cancer or detect it early, then it's most treatable * Help people get
wellby being in their corner around the clock to guide them through every step of their cancer
experience * Find cures by funding groundbreaking research that helps us understand cancer's causes, determine how best to prevent it, and discover new ways to cure it * Fight back
by working with lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and really communities worldwide to join the
fight
Each of us has our own reasons for caring about the fight against cancer...whatever your reasons, we hope
you'll choose to make a difference by making a donation on-line to support our efforts. We are so grateful to have great
people like you in our life who want to see an end to cancer in our lifetime. Together we can Save Lives.

PROJECT LINUS ORGANIZATION
We are also involved with the "Project Linus Organization".
Blankets are collected locally and distributed to children in hospitals, shelters, social service agencies, or anywhere that
a child might be in need of a big hug.
Project
Linus is a non-profit organization with a two-fold mission. First, it is our mission to provide
love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through
the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.” Second,
it is our mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities,
for the benefit of children.
I have made a few blankets in the past months and have given them to this
organization. The feeling you get when you receive a letter from a hospital, shelter or a child saying "Thank
You" for making them their blanket - there are no words that can describe it!
